The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) is the oldest drama school in the United Kingdom.

The Academy's Examination Department was established in the 1880s, since when it has become recognised as the foremost provider of examinations in performance skills in the world. LAMDA Examinations are accredited as an Awarding Body by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) in England, and the corresponding regulatory authorities in Wales (ACCAC) and Northern Ireland (CEA). The examinations now equate with other qualifications within the sector; for example, GCSEs and A Levels.

Celia Andrews runs her own Examination Centre where candidates can put into practise the theory and techniques of performance and presentation.

Available Examinations
The Speaking of Verse and Prose, Spoken English, Public Speaking, Reading for Performance, Acting, Mime, Devised Performance

Are you an Adult who would like to …
Make your speech clearer?
Change your speech patterns?
Improve your presentation skills?
Enhance the quality and power of your voice?
Gain confidence in your place of work?
Relate better in conversation?
The same basic techniques, ideals and ideas apply to teaching adults as do children. However, Adults can have additional needs, including long-term lack of self-esteem, established incorrect breathing and vocal technique, and adult inhibitions. All of these require patience, understanding and support. Adults are taught on a one-to-one basis.

Techniques taught by Celia …
Relaxation & Stress Release, Voice Work, Public Speaking, Interview Technique, Acting, Audition Coaching and Life Skills
  • Classes are tailored to the student; flexibility allows for the individual's personality and pace of work.
  • A strong foundation in technique ensure that skills will last a lifetime.
"...pushed them over the edge - and they flew" - Apollinaire

  • Do you find it difficult to relax?
  • Would you like to have fuller breathing?
  • Is your vocal quality weak, harsh, breathy, etc.?
  • Would you like your voice to be heard clearly in a large space?
  • Do you have to repeat yourself because your speech isn't always clear?
  • Is your voice tone monotonous or boring?
  • Do you stand or move awkwardly?
  • Do you find it difficult to express yourself articulately?
  • Would you like to communicate and converse more effectively?
  • Do you feel uncomfortable making corporate presentations?
  • Do you want to speak well at Weddings, etc.?
  • Are you nervous about reading aloud convincingly?
  • Would you like to be able to perform better as an actor?
  • Do you feel you'd like your speech and manner to reflect who you are?
  • Would you like to feel better about yourself and grow in self-confidence?

If you answer yes to any of the above – CELIA CAN HELP!

ABOUT CELIA
Having trained and worked as a secretary for five years, I retrained as a teacher of Drama, Dance and Singing at the Guildford School of Acting Conservatoire.

I gained LAMDA Licentiateships in Teaching and Acting and an Associateship of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance.

For over forty years I have taught, directed, coached, instructed and adjudicated people of all ages.

Every student of whatever age benefits from this type of learning in terms of self-confidence, poise and assertiveness, as well as acquiring the skills needed to communicate clearly and effectively.

Old-fashioned elocution has always been in demand, and is so now, as people recognise the value of good speech. Students also study movement, relaxation, deportment, acting, mime, improvisation, interview techniques, auditions, public speaking, presentations skills, etc. and are encouraged to take LAMDA exams where appropriate.

Celia's Approach
  • Maximum of six in a class ensuring individuals are given support, encouragement and meaningful consideration
  • One-to-one classes are available if more appropriate to your needs
  • With rare exceptions, boys and girls are taught separately
  • Intimate, comfortable surroundings in my own home with easy parking

Values and Beliefs
  • Respect through self-respect
  • Support of the individual's personality
  • The inestimable worth of self-confidence
