Festival of Light 2018!
Another amazingly successful Festival of Light is over, setting the scene in Walton-on-Thames for Christmas and the festivities ahead. The day started for some of us at 06:00 with the road closure and Surrey 4x4 Response taking care of all the logiscics involved with that. By 9:30 the market in the High Street was up and running along with the the two stages - one in front of Next and one in the High Street - ready for performers from midday until 5pm.
At 17:00 we all assembled for the highlight of the day - THE PARADE!! Lead by the Oatlands Pipe Band and our beautiful Snow Fairy we had children from Ashley, Cleves, Walton Oak, Three Rivers, Bell Farm, Walton Leigh and Grovelands as well as 1st Viking Sea Scouts, the Molesey Scout Band, ECL and Riverhouse Art Club. Sponsorship for the event came from The Heart Shopping, James Neave, CS Services, Chitty Funeral Services, McDonalds, Sainsburys and RC Sherriff. Bringing up the rear was Santa was in the lovely new Rotary sleigh along with Elmbridge Mayor Cllr Shweta Kapadia and our VIP. This year our VIP was Wendy Cerullo of Zebra Boutique in Church Street, whose business won 1st place for Fashion in the 2018 Elmbridge Retail Awards. She did the countdown for the light switch on, which was amazing! Many thanks to the organising committee, and also to the volunteers carrying the big lanterns and the volunteers who marshalled. We couldn't do it without each and every one of you! Brilliant day in the town, and smiling faces everywhere :-D Check out the photo gallery below, with credit and thanks to Ted Palmer of Phototed, Roger Malery of Radio Wey and Joanna Gordon of WoTTA.
