Walton-on-Thames- Essential Shops Are Open
National restrictions mean that only 'Essential' shops are open. Our web editor is getting out and about to add to this list.
Banks, building society offices, post offiices, estate agents, car repairers and parts suppliers, funeral directors, dentists, doctors, vets and chemist shops are all open.
Many restaurants and coffee shops are offering take-away service or deliveries. Please support their commitment.

An NHS Covid-19 Vaccination Centre Has Opened in Walton-on-Thames.
The former H&M for Kids store in the Heart opened as an NHS Vaccination Centre on Thursday January 14th.
This is not a walk-in centre. Only those who have a confirmed appointment at this centre should attend. Please do not arrive more than 10 minutes before your appointment time.
WoTTA has prepared this video to explain the process on arrival.
Dominic Raab MP for Esher and Walton visited the centre.
Celebrity Ruth Langsford praised the centre following her jab on Saturday February 13th. Read this Daily Mail article.
Pupils from Grovelands School have made a giant poster for the 'thank You' wall in the centre.

More Exciting Retail Developments in Walton-on-Thames
WoTTA has learned that Homebase is to launch three small specialist stores in Walton.
Kitchens by Homebase will open in New Zealand Avenue. This format store is operating in Guildford. The second store will be Decorate by Homebase. Other branches are in Sutton and Cheshire. A Homebase pop-up store will also be here.

On Thursday January 14th at 8am, Aldi opened its new supermarket in the centre of Walton-on-Thames. There is parking up the ramp behind the store.

Play Park open in Ashley Park, Walton-on-Thames
On a windy Saturday morning December 19th, WoTTA Steering Group Members marked the completion and opening of much needed play equipment in Ashley Park. The facility includes swings, a climbing tower, activity trail & jungle climber
This project (proposed by WoTTA) has been made possible through support (and funds) from Elmbridge Borough Council's Community Infrastructure Levy fund, Walton Charity and Walton BID.
The play equipment is fully installed is well used already despite the cold weather... Our page about the project has more information including pictures and a video.

Walton's Business Improvement District (BID) is Recruiting A Manager
In March 2020, town centre businesses voted to establish a Business Improvement District. Its activities were deferred for a year because of the pandemic. Recruitment for a Manager is underway. The deadline to receive applications was December 13th.

Homebase Site Planning Application - Refused - Appeal and Public Inquiry
. A planning application has been submitted by Guild Living in respect of the site currently occupied by Homebase in New Zealand Avenue, Walton-on-Thames (including the car park) . The proposal is for a 'development comprising 222 units of care accommodation with associated communal facilities, landscaping, parking, accesses (vehicular and pedestrian), public realm, bicycle stores and sub-station following demolition of existing buildings'.
This is a very important site in the centre of Walton-on-Thames. WoTTA encouraged residents and business owners to view the planning application and supporting documents. The application reference is 2020/0832
As at August 14th, 188 objections had been filed alongside 9 supporters and 8 people who submitted a comment. The application was considered by the EBC Planning Committee on October 20th. A report presented by Council Officers to the Planning Committee (published on October 9th) recommended that planning permission should be refused. The Elmbridge Planning Committee considered the application on October 20th..
On May 27th, WoTTA filed its opposition to the planning application. Read the letter below.

Council Encourages Independent Retailers to Improve Their Online Shop Window
Independent retailers located in Elmbridge can apply for a grant to help improve their online shop window. Having both a physical presence in our town centre and an online facility is in the interest of most businesses. How about a grant of up to £2,000 to improve your business? The Elmbridge Digital High Street Fund could help you. In July 2020, the criteria were changed to give an opportunity for more businesses to apply. Details of how to apply are on this page of the Elmbridge Borough Council website. |
