WoTTA ‘plays’ a visit to Esher Rugby Club - February 2017
At the beginning of February WoTTA Managing Director Joanna Gordon and Tracey Blandford, PR & Marketing Spokesperson, were invited to visit Esher Rugby club to meet Head of Community Relations Anthony Quinn to find out their goals for 2017.
The club has been through a period of change in the last 18 months so Anthony, and the relatively new General Committee Members, are keen to embrace enthusiasm from club regulars to promote the facilities the club has to offer, as well as further developing the sense of community it has created with its local neighbours and businesses.
Alongside its senior team, and vast number of mini’s and youths teams which create a membership of over 850 people, the club is keen to expand activities further by adding different sports and creating an outdoor play space so families can stay on and enjoy all the club has to offer during the week and at weekends. With multiple event, meeting and play spaces alongside large catering facilities and disabled access throughout, the club is keen to welcome local groups to take advantage of its capacity and to offer courses, bespoke coaching or skills the experts at the club have to offer.
Anthony and the General Committee see membership of WoTTA as an important action for the club so they can get involved in the wide range of community events we organise, through sponsorship or providing club members as marshalls and volunteers - vital to make our community-led events run smoothly and safely. There are also a great number of opportunities Esher can offer our young adults including short-term paid work experience or volunteering time. This initiative is a key focus of WoTTA for 2017 as we network with local schools, charities, sports groups and businesses to create a plethora of placements, paid work and skills training for the young people of Walton-on-Thames.
